Last Saturday the brand new Palomino Country festival kicked off at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Headliners Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson drew a crowd young and old to the picturesque setting with food trucks, two stages, and outdoor seating lining the park. Festival guests had tons of photo ops thanks to vendors like Arrowhead water, Monster energy, and more. There was also a booth for the brand new Amazon Prime series "The Terminal List" where guests could play games and enter to win exclusive prizes and fan experiences.
Palomino fest also comes right as Stagecoach 2023 tickets go on sale but while they are both country music festivals the two events are very different. Many Stagecoach fans were at the festival this weekend however they were mostly fans of the Palomino stage which features country and folk artists at Stagecoach. Palomino fest guests were drawn to the relaxed environment and the authentic country artist lineup that did not include the pop country artists who headline at Stagecoach.
One of the bands many guests were excited to see was the Old Crow Medicine Show who took the Lefty Stage around 7pm with a high energy performance that included a brand new song from their latest album as well as fan favorites. The crowd enjoyed dancing and stepping to the music while the band jumped around on stage. I spoke to the lead singer of the band Ketch Secor backstage before the show where he gave me an in depth look at the making of their latest album. Check out my interview here!
The event had a large turnout and continued to get crowded as the night went on. By the time Willie Nelson took the stage the park was filled to the edges with guests who had come out to see the legend.
Kacey Musgraves show combined her fun and colorful energy with the low key vibes of the festival. She sang songs from her latest album, Star-Crossed as well as some fan favorites from Golden Hour. Her set included a laser light show that lit up the park with rainbow lights while she sang her hit song "Rainbow".
The festival was definitely a success as country fans from Pasadena and beyond came out to enjoy a summer concert and many were already gearing up for Stagecoach 2023!
