This awards season, sustainable style is starring on the red carpets in a big way. Climate awareness is a huge trend in 2023 as the fashion industry moves towards more sustainable production at all stages of the design process. Luxury brands are also starting to take more care with their sustainability practices and the annual Green Carpet Fashion Awards are celebrating progress with a special release.
The GCC hosts its annual Green Carpet Challenge each year during awards season highlighting celebrity style that is sustainable and raising awareness about the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. The challenge will culminate with the awards ceremony taking place this March in Los Angeles. However, this year there is another great initiative to look forward to from Eco-Age the organization behind the GCC.
“I’m so excited to publish the GCC Style Handbook,” said Livia Firth, Founder of the GCC. The guide distils the learnings, methods and inspiration that we have gathered over years of working with design superstars committed to making fashion fit for the future on a healthy planet with full respect for everyone in the supply chain. In an age where sustainability in fashion is often misunderstood as more units of production with a green gloss, this is about democratising a vision – that beautiful fashion comes with deep green principles. We look forward to celebrating changemakers that embrace the GCC ideals this Awards season.”
The style handbook which launched today, is the ultimate dressing guide for contemporary sustainable looks fit for the red carpet. The GCC Style Handbook has been divided into four key style pillars: Bespoke, Artisanal, Vintage and Re-wear. The guide highlights slow fashion – the regenerative, the reclaimed, and the recycled, and champions use of existing materials and craftsmanship throughout. This is important because as vintage style has taken off the sustainability aspect of rewearing has sometimes gotten lost. The guide will serve as a way to help guard against greenwashing as well as introduce the latest sustainable style innovations to Hollywood.
