Summer Style at the Hamptons Garden Party for Diabetes Research Hosted by Patricia and Roger Silverstein

This past Saturday evening celebrities and socialites came out to a lovely sunset soiree to raise money for Diabetes research to find a cure. The event was hosted by Patricia and Roger Silverstein who were both in attendance. Patricia wore a bright pink two piece Alice and Olivia dress and several other guests also sported the hot pink look for the event. She is actively involved in the cause to raise awareness since she has relatives who suffer from diabetes. The event featured dinner, dancing, and drinks. The wine was sponsored by SipChanne wines founded by entrepreneur Kavita Channe who was also in attendance wearing a fabulous pink slip dress. The founder spoke with guests about her signature Rose wine and gave out fans so guests could stay cool on the hot evening.

The event also featured a silent auction and many creators donated pieces for the auction. The auction raised money for research and guests were also entertained by a speed painter who painted auction items live during the event. Kimberly Pucci, luxury accessories designer attended the event and donated her weekender bag to the auction. It was a huge hit with guests and she even brought an artist to sketch the guests with the bag. Check out my very own sketch below!

I spoke with Kimberly about her brand as well as the event. Check out our interview below with the quiet luxury designer who is set to debut at NYFW this fall!

Other notable guests in attendance included Doug Donaldson, Abigail Pollak, Susan Shin, Lauren Smart, Matthias von Herrath, M.D., Natalie von Herrath, Dr. Camillo Ricordi, Luann de Lesseps, Revel, Seth Herzog, Michael Burton, Jean Shafiroff, Carrie Packin, Brian Packin, Noreen Donovan, Jim Donovan, Kavita Channe, Valerie Greenberg, Maximilian Eicke, Irina Eicke, Viktoria von Siemens, Andrea Greeven Douzet, Laura Nicklas, and more.

Luann de Lesseps star of the Real Housewives of New York, wore an attention grabbing outfit styled by her daughter Victoria.

Irina Eicke also wore a very stylish look for the event sporting a Simon Miller look. Other guests showed up in Dolce and Gabbana summer dresses, Valentino shoes and more! Everyone had a great time raising awareness for this important cause and showing off their best summer style as the Hamptons season winds down.

The Internship Files day 1

Today was my first day at Fashion Business Incorporated in downtown LA. FBI as it's called is a non profit company that helps start up designers and provides education to the industry. Right now they are planning a trip to MAGIC tradeshow in Las Vegas. I will be accompanying them next week to help out at their booth in the sourcing department! If you are going to MAGIC please stop by and check out our booth! Today I worked on editing a PowerPoint for a presentation at MAGIC. I also helped out with answering phones and helping new customers. If you are interested in doing an internship make sure and pay attention to how the company answers the phone when you call. Write it down so you know what to say on your first day. Fashion Business Incorporated is also planning a fashion show at the New Mart in March. Today we worked on show production details such as finding models and a DJ. There is a lot that goes into planning a fashion show. I also update all the social media for the company so check out the FBI Facebook page here! I'll be adding more updates soon! Check back to learn more about the life of a fashion intern!

Fashionable Friday: Adventures in Fabric Sourcing in Downtown LA

I am always interested in everything fashion including designing. I wanted to design a few things of my own and learned that the first part of the process is fabric sourcing. I was specifically looking for canvas and vinyl. When I looked at Joann's and Mood I couldn't find any good colors for a good price. The prices for the fabric would've made my designs crazy expensive. So I decided to ask around to some of my contacts in the fashion industry. I learned that the best place to find cheap fabric in Los Angeles is downtown in the Fashion district. I headed downtown and found streets full of cheap wholesale fabric and trim stores. I spent hours exploring the streets in the hot sun. the shops don't look like much from the outside and the people hanging out on the street can be a little sketchy sometimes, but everyone I met in the shops was friendly. I soon found the fabrics I was looking for for half the price of the fabrics in Joann's. There were many varieties and I decided to try fabrics from a couple different stores. Once, I asked for information on where to find cotton and the shop owner directed me down the street to Freddie the "Cotton King". Even though it was a lot of work I was happy with the fabrics I found and it was much cheaper. I definitely recommend the fashion district in downtown LA to anyone looking to experiment with new designs or sell designs. It will bring the cost of your items down by reams! Where do you go to find cheap fabric?
