Fall Style Update: Magic of Prep

As the summer comes to a close, everyone is looking to update their wardrobes for fall. This Labor Day weekend I went trend scouting at the annual Fiesta Hermosa, the festival to celebrate the end of summer held in Hermosa Beach, CA. The festival was filled with vendors showing off their latest crafts and designs for fall.

This fall the trend is called Magic of Prep. This trend is all about taking traditional prep and adding unique flair. Styles are reminiscent of early 20th century English.

Clothing has a collegiate feel, with pin stripes, plaids, and button-up shirts, accented with wizardry and mystery.
Accessories add a darker, mysterious tone.

Clocks are one of the popular items I saw incorporated in various ways. There were all kinds pocket watches, wristwatches and, clocks in necklaces. Each one was distinct, as if it had a special meaning.  Some of the necklace clocks were hidden in animal shaped lockets such as an owl or elephant.  The pocket watches looked like they had appeared right out of a Harry Potter movie.  And the wrist watches each had a popular design such as a mustache.
This trend is individualized and youthful.  Individuals have the chance to tailor the look to their own tastes.  Styles will reflect an air of sassy sophistication; it will be a contradiction between studious and rebellious.

We will be still be seeing the statement necklace; this fall it may have a longer length and incorporate more metal and natural stones.

other accessories include preppy headbands with intricate designs such as swirls and sparkles.

We will also see some bright tech inspired colors mixed in with more traditional fall neutrals.

Tech has also definitely influenced this trend and there were all kinds of interesting and new tech accessories on display at the festival.

There are lots of fun and unique ways to where this style this fall. Magic of Prep is all about adding u your own individual taste to a  traditional look.
