Taking BarbieCore to the Next Level: World of Barbie is Coming to LA This Spring

Kilburn Live

BarbieCore is one style trend that is still going full force especially as the new Barbie movie premiere date gets closer. This spring BarbieCore fans will get a special treat when the World of Barbie experience opens in Santa Monica.

This one-of-a-kind immersive experience is produced by leading global toy maker Mattel, live entertainment company Kilburn Live, and global sports, fashion and events giant IMG. The 20,000 square-foot attraction will allow fans of all generations the unique opportunity to step directly into an inspiring world where they can explore a life-size Barbie Dreamhouse, try out several Barbie careers displayed in various interactive rooms, and even sit behind the wheel of a full-size Barbie Camper Van.

The executives working on the project shared their thoughts on what the Los Angeles stop will look like for fans.

“We are thrilled to bring this attraction to Los Angeles after a wildly successful, extended run in Toronto,” said Julie Freeland, Senior Director of Global Location Based Entertainment, Mattel. “As the number one doll property worldwide and the most diverse doll line on the market, Barbie is a global phenomenon. At World of Barbie we are excited to offer guests of all ages a larger than life, inspiring experience that reminds fans why they fell in love with Barbie and that they can do anything and be anything.”

“From day one this was much more than your typical experience. This is a world, a world built specifically for Barbie fans so they can experience what it is like to walk into a life-sized Barbie playset.” said Mark Manuel, CEO of Kilburn Live.

The immersive experience is a dream come true for Barbie fans but it will be even more interesting to see the different BarbieCore fashions that emerge since guests are encouraged to wear pink to special events such as Pink Carpet night and Sunset cocktail hour. LA is a unique location that will most likely influence the experience and have guests thinking about iconic Malibu Barbie or Surfer Barbie looks from the 90s and 2000s. The combination of the Barbie movie, new Barbie product lines, and iconic California inspired Barbie looks from the past is something fashionistas everywhere wont want to miss!

According to the website:

World of Barbie will feature many interactive installations including:

  • Barbie Dreamhouse: Visitors will be able to explore the exquisitely designed rooms of the life-size Barbie Dreamhouse, complete with a patio and pool, a DJ kit for guests to mix music, and walk-in closets filled with garments from decades of iconic Barbie fashion history
  • Barbie Camper Van: Fans can take the driver’s seat in this full-size camper van, built by leading car customization shop, West Coast Customs, or simply relax in a hammock
  • Fashion Studio: Guests will have an opportunity to walk the pink carpet and pose inside of one of the six Barbie boxes
  • TV Studio: Visitors can step onto the set and become a news anchor delivering headlines in front of various TV studio backdrops, interviewing their guests or giving the weather report
  • Space Center: Visitors will be able to board a Barbie space shuttle to interact with mission control and travel to several interstellar destinations
  • Salon: In partnership with Professional Beauty Brand, Paul Mitchell®, World of Barbie will feature a salon where guests can interact with Paul Mitchell products
  • Movie Theater: Guests can also step into the neighborhood movie theater where classic Barbie content will be played.
  • And so much more!
I can't wait to see this event!

Trends from Press Day in NYC: Sustainable fashion, Italian design, and more!

I headed over to a Press Day at an NYC showroom today to discover the latest from a few up and coming designers in NYC in addition to some Italian brands. I loved finding new and unique products as well as getting a sneak peak at the upcoming trends for this season. Press day is great because unlike a fashion show you can take your time to see the items up close and browse the collection.

At the showroom in downtown I entered and immediately saw the collection from one of my favorite brands Deity New York. Designer Renee Bishop creates sleek feminine silhouettes in fun flirty colors. You can read more about her last NYFW show that I attended here. I loved seeing the collection up close and got to see some of the couture pieces she had created like a beaded coat that weighed over 40 pounds! The spring collection was full of delicate patterns and neon accents which will definitely be a big trend for spring.

Next, I discovered a new brand that specializes in genderless clothing. Rinat Brodach was featured on Amazon's Making the Cut and designs clothing in her Brooklyn New York studio. Her latest collection which I got to view was also focused on sustainability and she worked with hand dyed fabrics from a scrap house in Brooklyn to create unique one of a kind pieces. The upcycled clothes had a worn in feel to them and tons of interesting pattern combinations. Genderless clothing is also a growing trend in fashion and is something more and more designers are experimenting with as the need for inclusivity in the fashion industry grows.

Frederick Anderson was another one of my favorite collections that I saw during NYFW this past season. I loved getting to learn more about his "garden party" collection he presented this season. The spring collection was full of elegant crochets, floral appliques, and pops of color. The designer also collaborated with artists from Peru to create unique fabrics and weaves while supporting local craftsmanship.

For accessories I fell in love with Italian brand Il Bisonte which uses scraps of leather from animals used for food purposes instead of creating any new waste. The brand is focused on simplicity and sustainability highlighting the artisanal work in their Tuscan based studio. The leather bags are made with extremely high quality and come in unique shapes and colors. I loved this fuchsia bag that matched my outfit! These bags are made to last and also make a statement with their artistic shapes and designs.

Finally for footwear I discovered this amazing brand, Respoke handcrafted footwear. They create original one of a kind pieces from re-used Hermes scarves. Each pair of shoes or sandals is unique and colorful and I believe it is the ultimate statement piece for anybody who enjoys luxury and vintage items.

This press day was definitely a success and I am loving my new pair of pink sunglasses from Marchon which are the perfect accessory for BarbieCore another trend I predict will continue in 2023.

Trends from BeautyCon Los Angeles 2017

This Weekend I went to BeautyCon LA and after hanging out with the trendiest beauty bloggers, product developers, and celeb beauty experts I have rounded up the best trends from the event. Plus checkout all the hottest new products I found in my BeautyCon Haul videos!

Customers from all over southern California came out to BeautyCon LA to experience the most talked about Beauty event of the summer. Some guests came from even farther places such as Canada for a chance to attend the special events offered such as the L'Oreal beauty school and to meet their favorite celeb beauty blogger. The shopping culture was alive and well all weekend as guests paid $50 and up for tickets that allowed them the chance to experience all their favorite brands and the flash show deals many booths offered. Free samples were everywhere and everyone had a great time exchanging tips on where to go for fun deals and great finds. I found myself falling in love with products I never would have looked at if it weren't for all the BeautyCon excitement. You can checkout some of my favorite samples in my BeautyCon haul video below for all my must haves! The celebrity culture is a huge part of this event's draw, especially in LA since the pink carpet boasted names such as Zendaya, Chrissy Tiegan, Debby Ryan, Skai Jackson, Ashley Tisdale and more!

The meet and greets and fireside chats gave fans a chance to get up close and personal with their favorite celebs and we were even treated to make-up tutorials in some cases! Check out my article on Ashley Tisdale's make up tutorial at BeautyCon here to read more! There was never a dull moment at the event which also offered fun and games at big brand name booths such as Anastasia of Beverly Hills, NYX, Absolute New York and others that offered an interactive experience for guests as well as many insta worthy photo ops! Personalization was a huge part of the BeautyCon culture this year and many brands offered their own version of a Build-a-Bear for beauty experience. Some of my favorite examples included DefineMe fragrances that offered a selection of 8 scents customers could mix and match to create their own personalized perfume. Other booths offered guests the chance to star in their own glamourous movie moment such as the L'Oreal photo booth where guests used props to create their very own Parisian shopping minimovie that also came with fun snapshot printouts.

This trend is only going to spread as the beauty industry moves towards mass personalization for individualized customer experiences in every department. A few fashion companies, such as Express denim, have also been highlighting this trend with their marketing and products. Guests of all ages also enjoyed the chance to learn about new products and get tips from the experts on how to use the latest in beauty technology right there in person. Brands also incorporated experiential marketing into their booths which made a big impression on customers. While the Wet N' Wild beauty booth didn't offer any free samples their virtual reality experience allowing guests to "swim with mermaids" attracted a big crowd. While there was ample opportunity to connect with brands on social media the event also offered guests the chance to connect with fun and like minded digital beauty communities through meeting fellow beauty enthusiasts as well as the social lounge where youtube vloggers and other social media sensations showed up for one on one time with fans. All in all the event captured the best of the shopping experience and offered some interesting ideas for brands and stores from all kinds of industries to think about. Check out my list of the most fashion forward looks from on and off the pink carpet for some style inspiration that is bound to make an appearnace this fall.

Stripes
Stripes were everywhere on the runways and now they've gotten even more popular with a street style twist on the high fashion looks from designers. I loved seeing all the different sizes and combos people came up with for this trend at the event.

Black and White
This classic color combo made an appearance in separates from crop tops paired with high waisted pants to monochromatic looks with contrasting accessories.

Glitter
My personal favorite, this trend showed up everywhere at the event from metallic make-up and shoes, to glitter face painting and sparkly accessories! Stand out this fall with a glitterized look of your own and check out part two of my BeautyCon Haul for some great sparkly products!

Mini Backpacks

Yours truly was rocking this trend on the pink carpet so I might be a little biased but these cute little backpacks were perfect for collecting all the free samples and free food throughout the day wile still keeping your hands free! Many people used the stylish accessory to add a pop of color to their look and dusty pink was definitely a favorite color. My favorite look to really make this piece work is to pair it with a high waisted denim mini skirt and sneakers for the ultimate effortlessly chic outfit.

Purple Lips
From the red carpet at the Met Gala to the pink carpet of BeautyCon purple lips have been making a big appearance. This trend is so much fun because you can make it into a bold statement with brighter purples or get artsy with some lavender tones. Or a dark purple bold lip can be the perfect way to rock your 90s back to school look this fall! Check out part 3 of my BeautyCon video to see my new favorite purple lipgloss from the event!
